Speedys Software Essentials is the list of programs that I consider essential to any new computer installation. These are the programs that, when asked to build or setup a computer for someone, I almost always install. To qualify for Speedys Software Essentials List, the software has to meet the following criteria:

1. It must be something most people need on their computer
This means that you won't be finding things such as music creators, script editors, and other items that most users will never need or want to do on this list.

2. It must be free software
Nothing on my list is something that you absolutely must pay for. Some of it may be shareware or indefinite trials, but everything is essentially free.

If it meets this criteria, then it may be on the list. Often times, the software on this list is a free alternative to a service you would normally have to pay for. However, sometimes it is a piece of software that works better than most other things on the market or it provides a niche capability that most people want, but don't necessarily have.
